Written Directions

Head west from Burgaw, NC on 53 until you come to US 421/Route 11 and take a right (head north) up to Clinton. At Clinton head west/north-west on Route 24 to Vander, NC and/or I-95.

Scenery

Along the way you run across several back country camp grounds, Boy Scout camps, and some very quiet lakes. Lots of farm country, mixed in with long stretches of close in pine forest on either side. There are several places along the way to take a family to relax like White Lake.

Drive Enjoyment

The road is in good repair with out some of the nasty ripples found occasionally on back country roads. There are some curves but they are gentle, and I was able to run an even 60 - 65 with no effort. Light traffic even on a holiday weekend make it very pleasing to ride!

Tourism Opportunities

The amenities along the way are limited to small bursts of civilization. You can easily ride through it if you fill up at the start of the route. Not many restaurants along the way,but right after it hooks into 95 you can get something to eat.

I have done portions of this route several times. I start from Fort Bragg and travel East through Clinton. The road is great, all the road surfaces are well maintained along the entire route.
Plenty of open farm land to enjoy. I usually travel this route on Sunday mornings. There is minimal traffic. Clinton is a great small town to stop for fuel or breakfast. You will pass over several streams that offer pull off areas if you want to relax by the water for awhile. This is a great route for newer riders who want open space and gentle hills and curves.

We started on Bragg BLVD and took 24 to 421. There's a lot of construction on 24 and the roads are pretty rough but once you get closer to Clinton they get better. The further south you go on 421 the better roads and the view get. But overall not bad, mostly farmland and cattle. Able to cruise around 65mph through most of the route. We crossed over on 53 and picked up 40 West on the way back to save time. It was nice to open up stayed around 80 mph. Overall the route took us 4.5hrs a little much but not bad. Amenities are few but enough nothing worth making a trip for but good enough to stretch your legs out. Enjoy and ride to survive!!!
