Written Directions

Starting in Cabol, Missouri, on US60 turn south onto MO 181. When reach MO76 go east and then turn south again on MO AP. You will be traveling in part of the Mark Twain National Forest. Finally take MO14 east to US63 east to West Plains.

Scenery

Generally, you are in woodlands and streams. South of Cabol lumbering has thinned parts of the forest, but much is still pristine. Lots of elevation changes and scenic vistas, but they were somewhat overgrown. MO 76 became twisty, but MO AP was even better, but then later it straightened out some, but still hilly.

Drive Enjoyment

Curvy, twisty, hilly - what more could you want? We did travel over multiple one-laned bridges to give you an idea of how much you are in the wilderness. We did pass a trailhead prior to reaching MO14.

Tourism Opportunities

There are opportunities for camping, picnics, horseback riding, fishing and hiking in the Noblett Lake Recreational Area and also the North Fork Recreational Area nearby. There are small towns outside of the National Forest, but comfort and necessity options at the beginning and end are the best bet.

Enjoyed the curvy portions. Saddened by the deforestation we saw at the beginning of the route. Definitely felt we were in back roads when we crossed the one-lane bridges
