My husband and I decided to take a nice long ride and decided to take this one. Boy am I glad we did. What a great ride. Nice scenery and very little traffic. Stop in Lumberton to get donuts and Columbia has a cute kiosk called The Fried Rabbit.

Not a bad ride. It's all about the journey, not the destination.587 has to be the highlight of the ride.Stop at Red Bluff and enjoy the scenery. Watch out for loose gravel in some of the curves and be sure you older bikers have your false teeth glued in good. Some rough stretches of asphalt, but still a good days ride.

Nothing special about the first segment of this route on Hwy 26 and 49. The first section of Hwy 13 is nice with good roads, the latter half flattens out and the road becomes a bit rough and unkept. The real gem of this ride is Scenic Route 587 where you will find plenty of twistys that you can ride at a spirited pace to Monticello. The road surface is of questionable quality though.
