Written Directions

From Highway 64 in Lake Lure, NC go east toward Rutherfordton. After approximately 4 miles you will past a golf course that is on both sides of the road. At the end of the straight there is a slight left and a sharp uphill right. Just before the top of the hill turn left on Buffalo Shoals Rd. between Point of View Restaurant and the Dam Marina.

Scenery

This road follows the southern edge of Lake Lure in Rutherford County, NC. It provides views of the lake and surrounding mountains if you're brave enough to take you eyes off the road.

Drive Enjoyment

Note: This road is curvy and not for beginners. Second gear is too fast for some turns. Also law enforcement in the area is notorious for writing speeding and left of center citations.

Tourism Opportunities

There is not much to do along the road but Lake Lure and Chimney Rock have a lot to offer. Lake Lure has a public beach, lake tours, restaurants, motels, bars, etc. Chimney Rock has hiking, shopping, restaurants, etc. Both of these areas are filled with tourists when the weather is nice so expect traffic.

Rode this yesterday; lots of fun. Was definitely dragging my pegs on a number of turns, and even catching some of the vegetation growing out of the cliffs on some of the inside turns. As a previous reviewer said, you never really get out of second gear. Some fantastic views of Lake Lure if you can stop for a minute to appreciate; no time for looking while you are riding though, too many tight turns. Definitely worth the ride.

This road is a terrific twisty ride.
Scenic? I don't know, I was busy watching the road.
Downsides: The road surface is decent, however this road has a LOT of residences along it and there are numerous areas with gravel and dirt in the corners.
Without this, it world certainly rival Tail of the Dragon or any other road in its fun factor.
I gave it a 4 rating, from a sport bike rider's perspective, because of the gravel and dirt in a few corners.
Someone on a cruiser who is out for a leisurely ride with a LOT of twists may rate this a 5 if they like a LOT of curves or they might consider it a 1 because they scraped up their floor boards trying to navigate some of the sharper corners while trying to maintain enough speed just to stay stable.

This road was worthwhile. Surface was clean almost perfect. It may be a bit challenging for a bagger or a Touring bike. You won't be taking your eyes off this road not for one second . Definitely gives the dragon a run for its money, maybe better
Corners may even be tighter. no problem with Leo.
