Written Directions

Begin route in Ponchatoula on Rte 22. Many meet at Paul's cafe and most bikes park in front of the alligator cage. Continue down Rte 22 through Springfield. The ride will take you through Killian where it follows the river. Shade from large oaks give refuge from the heat and sun. Several miles after Killian it straightens out and leads to French Settlement. At French Settlement take a right on Rte 16 North for 2.5 miles where Rte 16 merges with Rte 42. Stay on Rte 16/ 42 for another 3 miles to Port Vincent where Fred's is located.

Scenery

The route takes you through a few small towns and along the Tickfaw river. Most of the route is well shaded with large oak trees especially along the river. Along the river there are post card quality Cajun scenes of homes along the river. The road is smooth and maintained. There are nice curves along the river section and speed is low so you can look around. Don't look too much or you may find yourself in the river. Drive Enjoyment

Roads are smooth and maintained. It has a lot of curves and gets nice and twisty along the river between Springfield and for a bit after Killian.

Tourism Opportunities

There are a few mom and pop restaurants located along the way. It is hit and miss as far as the quality of food. It also depends on what you order. Seafood seems to be the best option to eat in these restaurants.

Took HWY 61 (Airline HWY) to Sorrento. Do NOT recommend this. Take I-10 because Airline has dips in road where culverts were installed. Once on 22, the ride was nice, only marred by trash by road from people still cleaning up after flood last August (this is end of October 2016). Once you get to Springfield it's just road and traffic gets thick.

We road this ride 2 weeks ago, It was great.
We road from Sun LA to Sorrento La. We went to Maurepas by accident kept straight instead of turning on Hwy 22. Lots of turns and great scenery awesome,

This road is under construction right now. Hwy 22 is a lot of fun, though. Take 22 and stay on it, then turn around and retrace your steps.
