Written Directions

I started in Wheeling and followed Rt88 south to 250 south all the way to Fairmont. Then on to 19 south to 119/33 south west.

Scenery

There are a few things here and there to look at but this ride is mostly about the challenge of the road. However you do get to see some small towns and a couple of nice vista style views.

Drive Enjoyment

Over all this route was in good shape. Some of it was even new pavement. However you do always have to watch for rough corners or corners with stones. I took Rt 88 south from Wheeling to rt 250 south to Fairmont. From there I took 19 south to 119/33 south west. The route had a good mix of tight switch backs, small 90 degree plus turns, long sweepers and a little back and forth from right to left. It will keep you on your toes the whole way. Not to mention that the majority of the time the speed limit is 55. There are many blind corners on this route. Ride during the day. On some of the fun parts turn around and go back through. Its a blast.

Tourism Opportunities

You pass through many small communities. The larger towns have everything you need. There are even a few small multi service stations that you can fill up with gas and have an ice-cream for a brake.

Just road a large portion coming from Wheeling. Finally got off and headed east, way too much truck traffic to enjoy the ride. The scenery is really nice, but not worth putting up with all the truck traffic coming from both directions, as well as pulling onto and off of roadway.

We took this route from Weston to Ripley during a touring ride headed west, and it was a very enjoyable part of the trip. It is indeed a nice combination of sweepers, tighter twisties, and straights. The scenery varies, and it generally great. The pavement is well kept, and in fact we were delayed a bit by a stretch of repaving work. There is truck traffic on this route, but there are enough places to pass. You can make pretty good time on it, or take it easy and relax.

I rode the northern half of this route with three other riders in June, 2012. We were going to drop down from Parkersburg and then take this exact route, but we were in the third day of a four day trip and we decided the original plan was farther than we wanted to ride that day. We crossed from Parkersburg to Clarksburg on 50 and then took the northern portion of this route. It had some lovely curves and I would recommend the entire route based on what I saw of it. In the end, the decision to shorten our day's route was a good one because it began raining about 10 minutes before we stopped for the night. If we'd done the entire route, we would possibly have been in the rain for hours. Rain plus strange, curvy roads, hmmmm, no thank you.
