Written Directions

Beginning in Woodsfield Ohio take Route 800 south about 3.5 miles to Ohio 255. Take Route 255 southeast all the way to the Ohio river at Sardis.

Scenery

This route is within the Wayne National Forrest. As such it is very rural and has few if any services along the way. This is a beautiful ride in the fall of the year as trees are your main views along the twisting turning hills.

Drive Enjoyment

This route is very twisty with lots of elevation changes especially near the southern end when it is a continuous drop down to the riverbed level. Don't expect much traffic and as such look for possible gravel / sand in the low spots in curves.

Tourism Opportunities

No services to speak of along this route. Be sure to gas up in Woodsfield before taking off. This route is short and ends on Route 7 which follows the Ohio river.

Motorcycle Road Additional info

For a fun extension to this short route, take Route 7 west 11 miles to Fly, Ohio and take the Sistersville ferry across the river to West Virginia!

Great road for the adventurous types. Not for amateurs. Along with 536 this is one of the top roads in SE Ohio. I rode this in the summer of 2014 and highly recommend it. There's plenty of tight corners and fun riding. Watch the gravel and rough patches! The traffic was very light but the roads condition was pretty rough. Like most SE Ohio roads, it's surrounded by beautiful hills, valleys and forestry. I can't remember any stops along the route for pics but then again I was probably lost in the joy of riding and taking mental pictures instead. Gas up in Woodsfield or somewhere on route 7.

255 can be hit or miss. Close to 800 it's pretty damned interesting, however the closer you get to Ohio Rt. 7 the pavement deteriorates a bit, the gravel starts showing up a bit more and there's sometimes construction on that part. Still wholly worth the ride, but it's not exactly jaw dropping. Great views, though.

Several of the roads need some attention out in southeastern Ohio, but this road surface would have to improve just to be terrible. It's a mess right now... potholes, gravel, very rough road. I'll avoid it until it's repaved. Hopefully someone can give us an update if it ever happens.
