Written Directions

The route starts in Allentown NJ on County Road 539 south, you take 539 all the way to Route 72 East where you will end up in Long Beach Island.

Scenery

The route goes through the small town of Allentown that is very scenic and then changes into the New Jersey Pine Barrens. After that it changes again to the beach community of Long Beach Island and the surrounding area.

Drive Enjoyment

Allentown is average but 539 is perfectly paved. 72 is good but you are mostly on 539 for the trip. Overall, it is nicely paved most of the way. Two lanes that are not very busy and a little hilly and it feels like you are lost which is great!!

Tourism Opportunities

Most of 539 is in the pine barrens and is pretty deserted but 72 has lots of places for fun. The route includes local businesses from Allentown, Cousin Paintball on 539, and all sorts of restaurants and attractions on 72 .

One of the best rides in NJ... great for beginners, smooth pavement, lots of little places to stop. Take a side trip to Tuckerton and drive out Great Bay BLVD... great views of Atlantic City at night.

Just to add to my last review. aside from some nice farmland on the northern portion of this road and a few small towns to ride though, it is pretty much a straight, flat, well maintained road. Scenery is mostly pine trees and sand. Even from Tuckerton south on the Great Bay Blvd is very boring except for a few small wooden bridges on the way to the water. At curtain times of the year, if your stopped enjoying the view of A.C. you will be eaten alive by biting flies. NJ is loaded with much better roads than this.

Sorry to say but this is a very boing ride. I live near Princeton, NJ so this is the road I take to get to the Jersey shore. Its a great way to get to the shore, but I wouldn't go out of my just to ride this road. Nicer rides in that area are Rt 524 and 526. Too many nicer roads in NJ to waste your time on 539
