Written Directions

From the Natchez Trace, near the town of Lorman, MS, take 552 West to Fire Tower rd on the left. Follow Fire Tower road and soon you will split off to the right and on to Rodney Road (the first right). This will take you to the town of Rodney where you can explore for a while. From Rodney continue west until you come to an intersection where you want to take a left and stay on Rodney Road. Go about 1.5 miles and take a on to Noblin Swamp Road. You'll end up coming to a T where you want to take a left on to Frasier Road. Then take your next right on to Johnson Road. Take this for about a mile and you will come to a T in the road and wan to take a left on to Route 553. Stay on 553 as it takes you back to the Natchez Trace and this ride's suggested end point. Keep in mind that most of the roads that connect this trip are great to explore as well. Enjoy the ride!

Scenery

A ride to and through a virtual ghost town (Rodney, MS) with a fascinating history ... along the way you'll be exploring the backwoods of the Mississippi River. Expect to see deer, turkey, and Elephants (just making sure you're paying attention). At the end you'll make your way into historic Rodney, MS (which dates back to 1715)was once a port on the Mississippi River. It was significant location during the civil war. A cannonball remains wedged in the front of the church. An old cemetery is also of interest and should be explored. Many of the roads you will be traveling were used by troops during the civil war as well. .

Drive Enjoyment

Beware as the roads are mostly solid dirt with a few hills and curves. This is a side trip to take your time on, soak in the history and wildlife and put yourself back in time!

Tourism Opportunities

Take food and water and make sure you have enough fuel as Rodney is a "ghost town" and you will find no amenities there.

Would not make this ride again. Most of it is a very ruff dirt road. There are only 4 run down buildings to the ghost town. Of which you can only go in one of the churches. The rest are vine covered and falling in. The town is mainly hunting cabins.

Since I like riding on paved roads, I would not recommend this trip. We were passed by numerous dump trucks on a dirt, wash-board, road who were hauling dirt out of a pit in Rodney. We stopped at the Old Country Store Restaurant in Lorman but I would not categorize the food as "superb". It was good southern-fried chicken but the sides were below average for my taste. I would go there again but would not make a special trip.
