Start in Anamosa Iowa and follow highway 64 all the way to Sabula, Iowa. Continue east on 64 and cross over from Sabula Iowa and into Savannah, Il (which isn't far). Stop at Poopy's in Savannah Ill and after you eat go from Savannah north up to Galena, IL on route 84. After passing through Galena on 84, look for US Highway 20 and take that to the left (west) to Dubuque Iowa. From Dubuque Iowa take US highway 151 southwest and back to Anamosa, Iowa. The whole ride takes approx 6 hours with the food stop.
The namesake for this Iowa motorcycle ride is Poopy's Pub and Grub which is touted as "Illinois Biggest Biker Destination." As far as scenery goes, this is by far one of the most scenic routes in Iowa, second to only the great river road! One of the scenic and interesting stops is the town of Sabula Iowa. It holds the distinction of being Iowa's only island city. Shortly after that, you'll swear you were in Florida while crossing into Savanna IL and then you get to cross the old metal grated bridge.
The road from Anamosa to Sabula is a two land highway, can be bumpy in spots but is paved and fine to ride on. The ride then heads north along the Mississippi River and within the river valley which makes for a more curvy ride and a greater fun factor.
I recommend meeting at the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa to start your ride then eat lunch at Easyrider magazines very own Poopy's restaurant, featuring an outdoor patio which has live music on Friday nights and has camping available but so does the state park on the other side of town.
I would like to suggest an alternative to this route. When leaving Savanna, take Ridge road to Derinda Rd. Derinda Rd. to US 20. WB on US 20 into Elizabeth, IL. On west edge of Elizabeth, take the Scales Mound blacktop north to StageCoach Trail. West on Stagecoach into the back side of Galena. Through Galena back to Rt. 20 WB to Dubuque, Ia. Lots of curves, good pavement and scenery along this route.

The bridge between Sabula and Savana is a steel grate bridge. It is very slick even when dry. I always try to stop in the middle and look down, you can see the water thru the bridge. If you want more curves go north of Dubuque toward Balltown Ia.
