Written Directions

Start in Sonora, CA and head east on CA 108 all the way until it junctions with US-395 in the town of Sonora Junction - 79 scenic miles in all.

Scenery

This route delivers breathtaking vistas of snow covered mountain peaks, mountain meadows, wild flowers, wild life, water falls, and trees of every description. Panoramas so beautiful, they look painted. This is strictly a summer road as it is closed in winter. You can still see snow at the end of summer near the mountain peaks.

Photo contributed by a visitor in July 09: "This is the top of Senora Pass, approximately 10,000 ft."

Drive Enjoyment

The pavement quality is good for a two lane mountain road. The road is steep, narrow and very twisty near the pass. Overall this is not a beginner's road. Steep and narrow, with sheer drop offs. Awesome ride for an experienced rider.

Tourism Opportunities

There are no stores or gas station on the east side of the pass, and 18 Miles from the west junction to the nearest town Bridgeport. One recommendation for food - Strawberry ski lodge is a great lunch stop.

A breath taking thriller!!! We had the pleasure of riding this road in August of 2020. Being the second highest pass in the Sierra Mountain range, it is a must ride if you love fresh air. This is one of our favorite roads in northern California, a true motorcyclist and outdoors man paradise. With plenty of sharp turns and large sweepers with stunning scenery to match. There is also several opportunities to pull over to take in the scenery and perhaps get that perfect photo. The scenery is equally stunning (but different) heading in the opposite direction. You will not be disappointed.

Really nice once you get up toward the summit and away from populated areas (I rode west to east). Very little traffic. A very worthy ride.

All the passes from central CA to eastern CA through the mountains are a 5/5. This is no exception. Less crowded than 120/Tioga Pass and much of the same vibe and scenery. A wonderful ride indeed. Every time I head over these glorious mountains I never know which pass to take because they are all breathtaking.
