Written Directions

Begins in Clarksville, AR off I-40. Take Hwy 21 north up thru the Ozark National Forest. Heading North up thru Fallsville on to Boxley, AR.

Scenery

The Ozark Highlands Scenic Byway passes through a rugged section of the Boston Mountains (located in the Ozark National Forest) in the Ozarks.

Drive Enjoyment

This is one of my favorite roads because you ride and never pass another car. There are many turns and hills that made this ride one of the best in Arkansas.

Tourism Opportunities

The area is packed with outdoor opportunities like hiking, canoeing, caving, rock climbing, fishing, hunting, mountain biking and horseback riding. A herd of about 450 elk roam the Buffalo River corridor at Boxley Valley, Steel Creek, Kyle's Landing, Erbie, Ozark, Pruitt, and even on private lands, and Newton County is known as the Elk Capital of Arkansas.

Another great ride and road in Arkansas, man I am blessed to live in this great riding state. I have ridden highway 21 several times from both directions, can't say enough good things about it. It has a good road surface and a lot of sweeping curves and few tight ones thrown in to keep you alert. Great scenery throughout the whole ride and don't get me started about the fall colors, magnificent, some of the best in the state. This doesn't even account for all the great secondary roads you can take east or west. Don't forget to check out picturesque Boxley Valley, have your camera ready to snaps some pics of the elk grazing in the area in the early morning or late evening. Enjoy!

Another fabulous road. Makes me wish I lived closer. Are there any bad roads in northwest AR? This site encouraged me to make my first trip to the area and I was definitely not disappointed.

Wow, just wow. Endless twisties, next to zero traffic, beautiful Ozark mountains. The perfect companion to the Pig Trail, go up one, down the other. Skrew Coast-to-Coast, I'm going back to ride NW Arkansas for 10 days this fall!
