Written Directions

Just start in Silver City, NM and take NM 152 east all the way to Caballo, NM.

Scenery

This road is great continuous hairpins with rapid elevation changes, great scenery, camping, lot's of trees. Almost no police officers. This road is hard, you'll only average about 40 miles per hour going hard, lot's of knee skidding.

Drive Enjoyment

A solid 4-star rating because of all the twists, turns, and hairpins.

Tourism Opportunities

Don't take this route for the things to do along the way ... take it for the driving experience. There is not too much to do along the way except for camping. .

Recent improvements make this road a great ride from Hillsboro to Silver City. Be aware of the time of year, as grit from snows can remain on the road for a few weeks. Always good in the summer. Fuel is only at the end of the route, so Hatch, NM and Silver City, NM are musts for gas.

Tied this into AZ191. Made for great riding. Wonderful curvy roads through amazing country. Can’t wait to go back.

This road is second only to the Needles out of Custer in South Dakota in my book. Heck, I ride the 300 miles from Tucson to T or C just to come back through the Black Range (Hwy 152). I have been riding this for a year and never get tired of it. Do watch for the deer.
