Written Directions

This road starts in Strasbug, VA and ends near Mount Storm, WV. HOWEVER, this road is still being built west of Mount Storm and will extend to I-79 near Weston, WV when it's complete. (It is already complete that far west, but parts of the middle are still being built.)

Scenery

This freshly built road is pure eye candy, from what I've seen between Moorefield, WV and Mount Storm, WV. Parts of the road are blown straight through mountains, parts are built of bridges that are thousands of feet up, and in many parts you can see the road a mile ahead of you...and it's not a straight path to get there. Bravo to the designers of this beauty.

Drive Enjoyment

Fresh, new pavement that is completely flawless and much of it is less than a year, two or 3 old. Everything about this road speaks to them taking their time, doing it right and with much care.

Tourism Opportunities

No amenities on the sides of this road. Mount Storm has pretty much nothing, either. If you want amenities you'll want to stop in Moorefield, WV or one of the bigger exits on this road.

Just a note: This is mostly a new expressway (4 lane). It is neat how they put it through the mountains. If I would want to make time across the mountains it's great. Check out many of the 2 lane roads over in that section of the state. The section of Rt.48 from I-81 near Strasburg VA to Wardensville WV is still 2 lane and also beautiful.

As of 2017 they keep expanding this road more and more westward. The goal is that by 202x they'll reach 219 past Parsons. Lots of hills were blown up so this road could be made. Very pretty, especially in the autumn. This road doesn't receive its due credit.

Update from West Virginia’s Road Ranger (July 31st, 2020): Pavement is smooth as a baby’s ass, as of June 2020. They’re nearly at Davis now, so feel free to ride it all the way down. They’re calling 2023 for it to be done to be run into I-79. I very, very much look forward to it. As usual, check out www.wv511.org for any construction that may be around. (It won’t be for this road, but perhaps a road that you want after you get off of this one.) Also, hit up https://www.wvcorridorh.com/ for more info on this road. It’s been a long time in the making…)
