Written Directions

From Fort Davis, take HWY 17 south to 166 and follow 166 all the way around Mt Livermore to 118. (118 is included in another motorcycle roads route and could be taken back to Fort Davis as an alternate route back to make a complete loop.)

Scenery

166 is listed as a Texas scenic route and is also a birding trail with several suggested bird watching areas. Wiki link for Texas 166: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_State_Highway_166

Drive Enjoyment

Good quality asphalt road with painted markings and good signage. Road does not have a shoulder on northern half of route.

Tourism Opportunities

I don't recall any road side conveniences of any kind once you leave Fort Davis.

I included this road in my review of 118. I suggest a 118/166 combination loop. 166 is less adventuresome by scenic. There is open range so there are cattle crossings and the potential for cattle. I still endorse
