A great ride for what it is, a ton of turns in a short space, do it, enjoy it, take a rest and then explore the beautiful rides close by like Nantahala and Maggie Valley.

It's a good road all motorcyclists need to do at least once. It should be on your check list if you haven't done it. Then enjoy the other great roads in the area.

Fun road to ride, but very popular with not only motorcycles but sports cars and everyone that thinks they are driving a sports car even if it's a pick up truck. Be patient pull over at earliest opportunity if there is someone behind you. Watch for those that are impatient and pass on curves (yes cars do it too). Best times to ride and enjoy are in the middle of the week on non-holiday periods.

This is a must ride road, but you have to be technically competent. Lots of curves and due to popularity, plenty of traffic from both car clubs and crotch rockets. Go early in the week and before the leaves fall. Excellent road surface.

Awesome ride. Be cautious of truckers taking up both lanes in the corners.

Fun road ! Drove it many times with different bikes. I still prefer the Cherohala Skyway because of it has less traffic.

Full of twistys and switchbacks! Look out for oncoming traffic and stay in the middle of your lane ! All in all worth the trip !

Rode it 5 times, twice in the rain. It's a total blast as long as you stay in your lane and keep it under control. Lots of traffic on the weekend. Tuesdays are good for a bit more breathing room and enjoyment.

If you want a challenge, this is it. Photographers take your picture from many different locations along the ride. It is NOT for the beginner rider.

Not enough words in the English language to describe the ride. If you enjoy 317 turns in 11 miles then this is the road for you.

I have ridden this both northbound and southbound tons of times. I live about an hour or so from the Dragon, so ride it when I can. Southbound is a bit more challenging, but both directions are fun! The only time this fun is not as fun is meeting a tractor-trailer going through. They are not supposed to do so, but some just don't care! Be careful!!

Challenging ride that you have to pay attention on. Definitely best when there isn't much company on the road because it can get very crowded up there.

Would be 5 stars if it were not for all the traffic. I've ridden this ride multiple times. Since I do not live close enough to get there early in the morning or late in the day the place is always packed (at least in warm weather). Great road to ride, get your picture taken, get some souvenirs, but don't expect the motorcycle mecca its made out to be. Va16 (Back of the Dragon) or the Claw of the Dragon are much better rides and are not commercialized.

My son and I spend the weekend with a motorcycle riders group in the center of these amazing rides. We road this four times over the weekend and enjoyed every one. Great flow to the curves and got some good photos from the photographers taking actions shots of riders as they ride by. Very cool.

Finally made it out to ride the "Tail of the Dragon". I have been wanting to ride this stretch for years and made the leap this past week. The road was great, pavement in good condition and to no surprise, a lot of twisties. I camped at a free campsite right off the highway. If you are looking for a scenic ride, this one isn't it, its beautiful country surrounding but the road is usually covered by trees and vegetation. Plus you better keep your eyes on the road anyways, I witnessed a Harley crash unfortunately so be safe.

Amazing scenes and surroundings throughout. You can start on this route and continue through to the Tail of the Dragon in the "opposite" direction. Or, you can start with the Tail of the Dragon and finish with the Cherohala Skyway. Doesn't get much better than this.

The tail is a fun short ride and when combined with the Cherahola skyway it's a good half-day ride.

Great ride but got behind a couple of scooters who wouldn't pull off onto any of the many designated places. Wanted to go back through but didn't have time. Definitely going back again and will stay a couple of days.

Rather go down than up. Watch for heavy traffic and put your head where you want to go not where the scenery is.

It was a very exhilarating ride through the dragon. On a cruiser, I tend to be less aggressive than sport bikes; however, the twists and turns rolling from one turn to the next feeds upon itself until you find yourself pushing a little faster and leaning into it a little more with each progressively more challenging section of road. I rode it at the end of a longer day of riding, so I look forward to riding it again- hopefully a little more fresh for the next run through.

Rode on September 21, 2020. After years of hearing about the technical complexity of this road, i was a little intimidated. A fellow rider had suggested a Monday would be the least amount of traffic. Designed a four day ride around the idea of doing just that. When I finally got to Deals Gap on Day 3, I'd already gotten my mountain legs accustomed to tight turns again. It was a breeze and a lot of fun. The riding community in NC is very courteous. No aggressive passing; still i pulled over a couple of times to make room for the sportiest riders. The funniest thing is that my ride tracking app from Rever.co had an error and recorded this ride as taking 172,000+ hours to complete.

Requires 100% of your concentration, this road is no joke. The downside is that I was so busy navigating the curves that I did not get to enjoy the scenery much. And this is some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen!
