Excellent route, everything you would want it to be, but do yourself a favor and keep your eyes on the rode and disregard the scenery.

Much hype over a stretch of road that can be dangerous due in most part because of other drivers. Doesn't have many views. Still, lots of twisties and fun to ride; just stay focused and be alert for other drivers coming the other direction the first time you ride it (they can surprise you at times).

Great road for experienced riders. Everyone has to ride it at least once. The road to get there and around there are amazing as well.

Rode this a couple of years ago in October with a group of friends from high school that get together every year (some undisclosed # of years later) to do a group ride somewhere in the US. It did NOT disappoint.
I was on my fairly newly purchased (at the time) Indian Roadmaster, and my buds were on various other touring bikes. We rode the 'Dragon' twice, once down and then again back up to Deal's Gap. I must say that this ride really encourages you to work BOTH sets of brakes.
There were the usual groups of sport bike riders occasionally zipping past us, not cool that one actually clipped elbows with one of our group. And then there were the Corvette's and Camaros and other cagers hauling but, until pulled over by the local LEO's.
This ride definitely lives up to the billing, and I live a stones throw from the "Three Twisted Sisters" here in Texas.

Alot of heel-toe action on this route. You better keep your head in the game for this, but very enjoyable.

Great road to ride, but you do have to watch out for all the A**holes that are in a big hurry. The twist, turns, and curves are certainly a lot of fun to see how far you can lean and still have time for the next corner. Not for the faint of heart or a newbie.

Yes, Tail of the Dragon, what an adventure this was ... the Tennessee valleys and rivers, the dams, the whisps of smoke coming from the stills ... (stills), and turns .. twisties defined, maybe it was actually work having to concentrate this much when I wanted to be gazing into the hills and valleys, maybe 2nd and 3rd gears aren't my favorite, but I absolutely loved the entire ride .. and it was over way too fast. The crazy story was the adventure we had getting to the starting line known as Deal's Gap.
Somehow we didn't get out of Chattanooga until late afternoon and found the Cherohala with the sun late in the sky. It passed through my mind that we'd probably only be an hour or so in the dark by the time we rolled into Deals Gap. Turns out the Skyway was an incredible ride in 4th/5th gear with an almost perfect cadence, HOWEVER somewhere deep into the forest, the GPS signal dropped out while I was dreamily riding along in a perfect world and when I realized it the route had obviously changed into some Indian Boundary but there was a beautiful lake to gaze upon while I hid my panic from my buddies. We backtracked a handful of miles, found 168 and continued. The last hour before Robbinsville (hoping to see Jim Tom) was pitch black and the turns got tighter and tighter while my lights got dimmer and dimmer. When we rolled into Robbinsville, I figured Deals Gap was only a hop, skip and jump away and we could get something to eat at the hotel ... Well, it took forever to find Tapoco and that last turn across the bridge and up the hill had me convinced that I was about to fall off the edge of the earth .. then I crested the hill, smelled smoke from the campfire and saw the small (but beautiful) Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort (which closes at sunset .. no dinner for my crew). After Granola bars, Crown, campfire stories, a cold shower and short night's sleep, we got a hearty breakfast and set out to conquer the Tail of the Dragon.
I live to ride and ride to live.

an amazing ride! if you like this - go down a ways to the devils triangle- not as congested- but great views. people in these parts are the most friendly you will ever meet! (wish this road was bikes only- watch out for cars and such! was there during the jeep jamboree- and those things don't corner well- stay off road gents.
we made it down- had lunch in the Tapoco Tavern very nice and great scenery- it rained- and on top of the wet roads- they mowed- so debris everywhere- so i think our group got extra brownie points!! so fun.

I can see why it is rated so highly. Even though I was on 2019 Goldwing I had a blast pushing through the corners. Following up with Hellbender 28 made it even better. The 10 mph corners on Hellbender 28 are 10 MPH !! ride safe

A fun ride, challenging in places, but hard to enjoy the scenery because of the attention needed for the road, and the traffic. IMO, best to ride during the week....

Rode last summer on my Can Am Spyder RT Limited and absolutely loved it. The ride there from Tennessee was very scenic and the Dragon did not disappoint. It’s a fairly exhausting ride honestly and was glad to stop in Deals Gap for lunch and a rest. We turned around and rode it again heading back to Tennessee and it’s a ride I’ll never forget. Check one off the bucket list ✅

Rode her 6 times last summer on two different trips. Got some great video with my GoPro. Like some of the other roads in the area better, but there's no photographers. What can I say. On the downside, someone stole my cell phone, which kind of put a damper on the trip.
