Written Directions

Start in Walhalla, SC and head north on route 28, cross the SC/GA border, stay on route 28, cross the GA/NC border, and head into Highlands, NC (then end point).

Scenery

Beautiful National Forest scenery. Mountains, Rivers and Waterfalls ... a great sampling of 3 states in a nice 30 mile run! Travels through the Sumter National Forest and later Nantahala National Forest.

Drive Enjoyment

Plenty of tight curves as well as some long sweepers, nice transitions. For the pavement, the majority of the road is in good shape. Once in the forest area you can twist the throttle and drag your knees.

Tourism Opportunities

Not a lot between Walhalla and Highlands, so, fill up before you leave Walhalla. No restaurants or other facilities for miles.

Really nice ride from where I started in Georgia towards South Carolina. I am not much of a twisty person but once you get into the area leading towards Highlands, NC, there will be plenty for the curve and twisty lovers. One point is missing because I am not into many twists. Glad I took the ride today.

Rode from Asheville to Highlands on 64 W from Brevard on 8/16/20 based on this recommended ride. Thoroughly enjoyed the ride down the mountain through that corner of Georgia and down to Walhalla. Rode back up the mountain via Hwys 183 and 11in SC and then north on 130 SC/281 NC to return to Hwy 64 near Sapphire, NC. Gorgeous rural and mountain state park scenery, smoothly rolling sweepers and minimal traffic on a Sunday afternoon. Highly recommended!
