My wife and I took this trip yesterday - 2-up on a V-Strom. This road is a lot of fun. We ate as the Redbud and loved the food.
Coming from Greensboro, NC, we took RT 58 west. It was a long haul, but a there are sections of twisties on 58 too.
We'll be doing this trip again!
