Rode this coming back from Maggie Valley to Little Switzerland. Definitely more fun than NC-226 (with a lot less traffic), and was quicker than taking the Blue Ridge Parkway from I-40 or US-70. The road surface wasn't as good as the BRP, but still decent. The only issue is the (as noted) congestion getting from I-40 onto Town Mountain Rd, which is a bit convoluted. But it's now my go to route for getting from the BRP into Asheville.
