We went from 64 to 74, I would recommend heading the other direction if possible. You'll get a better view of the stream and falls. Very nice ride and the road was good.

First time on this road. Lots of twists. Some great scenery. Many sections are recently re-paved. I'd love to ride it again.

This is one of my favorite rides. About halfway through, look for Winding Stairs Rd. on your left. You can take it a few miles up a winding road to a nice lake. If you're really adventurous and have a suitable ride, keep on past the lake and the road becomes a seep, rocky and primitive forest road that really lives up to the "Winding Stairs" name and goes down all the way to US74, joining a couple miles north of the Wayah Road turnoff

Great road with TONS of tight turns. I'm giving it 3 stars because some of the turns were SUPER tight for a bigger bike. There is NOTHING back here on part of this and no one going by so if you got in trouble you might not see anyone for a while.

The west side did have a lot of gravel in some of the turns.

Despite the above - this ride was fantastic. Amazingly technical turns with huge elevation changes.

One of my favorite roads, anywhere! I visit the area a few times per year and I always make sure this one is on the route. Great place to stop at the northern end. There is a river raft launch point. Great place to sit back rest and watch the river go by. HUGE FUN. Put this road on your route!!!!

Just to update on this road: We rode it in June and it was fairly torn up with maintenance work. It's dirty and gravelly even when it's good, a little more so now. It may be cleaned up by the fall. Otherwise, it's a longish segment that's scenic, but not a good road to run fast, if that's your wont.

Great road. Found out about it reading a bulletin board at Deals Gap. Not a lot of traffic. Great scenery, good elevation change.

We started at 74 and rode west to east. First couple miles is a beautiful ride along the Nantahala River with places to pull off. Road twists and winds and takes you past Nantahala Lake, it ends at Loafer's Glory General Store where you can purchase Wayah Road t-shirts and decals.
Not a road you want to be too aggressive on. For the most part road is in decent shape, there are plenty of twists, you do have to watch for loose gravel in the curves from time to time especially once you get east of the lake. Nice scenery, hardly any traffic until you get to the far east end. If your in the area be sure to find this road, a true hidden gem! If road was a little better I would give it 5 stars.

I recently came across this road by accident while on a trip to the Smokies with my father (our 1st father-daughter trip!!). We hit all of the "classic" roads in the area, but I'd still have to say this one was our favorite and will be a "must ride" every time I return to the area. There is quite a bit of shifting involved and has some very tight, blind, decreasing radius turns but all in all we loved it, we felt like OWNED the road. We didn't see one vehicle until we were taking a photo opp at a bridge.

Went down in today and a good portion of road has been patched and has lots of asphalt debris still. The patch work makes it difficult to navigate too. They are still doing road work and have equipment working. I have ridden this road before and was very disappointed. Was probably the worst road I have been on in area.

Road West to East. Roadway started of rough but after a few miles turned to new smooth blacktop. Nice surface with heavy gravel shoulders. road this fourth out of five rated roads today including the Dragon. Without a doubt this was my favorite. Lots of switch backs and hairpins. Would be a five except for gravel in a number of turns. Very little traffic on this gem.

Have ridden this many times. It has it all. Great twisties. Steep grades. Switchbacks. Along the Nantahal River on the west side until you get to the lake at the top. Heavy forests on most of it. Great mountain homes set back in the woods. Often there is gravel in the curves from cars which can't stay on the hard pavement, so be careful. Lightly traveled. Mostly just locals and for the first 5 miles, trout fishermen. Getting to it is fun as well, as you ride alongside the lower river where all the kyaks and rafting companies try their luck on the whitewater. stop up top at the fire tower for a great 360 view, at the top of Wayah Bald. Beautiful country and ride. if it weren't for lots of gravel in curves a nice challenging ride. Really a five except for the gravel

On motorcycles this is a good road, with a bit more of a cruise feel. I'm thinking in a hot car this would be more fun. That said it is a fun route, the road can be slim, the surface can be 'meh' in spots, their can be patches of light gravel, and the temperature will drop, or rather, it did for us as we headed east into Franklin. I haven't went on it but CR 711 is supposed to be very fun, as well, and it's about halfway through Wayah. Perhaps head up it for 5 - 10 miles or so and turn back around, down it and then back on to Wayah. Good road, but watch yourself.

Great scenic road with lots of turns and different elevations 3200 ft above sea level. Traffic is minimal, only local traffic. Great restaurant Lakes End Grill by the lake. Try the Monster Burger. This road has 28 miles of fantastic motorcycle riding. I enjoyed it better than Dragons Tail.

Too me, not a fun ride. The twists and turns are good, but the road is poorly maintained and often rocky in turns. Be sure to watch your path, especially in curves that you don’t drift into the rocky surface near the center or inside the lane.

Loved this road. Would not likely have found it without motorcycleroads.com. There's several pull offs around "Turkey Pen Cove" that are very nice places to stop and take a break. Images and Video available via this link: https://twitter.com/aubrew/status/1314668550951440386

Favorite ride in NC. A little of everything from tight Twisties to sweeping curves and scenic riverside. Just keep your eyes on the road, especially on the eastern half.

Rode on September 20, 2020. Great road. Excellent segment to include in a route between Franklin and Robbinsville. Several pull-offs where you can stop and take a break.
