I live in Lawrence County and close to this route and ride it pretty often. I have ridden it over the last 10 plus years 2 to 3 times a year maybe more. Highly recommend it for a good country ride, especially nice in the fall and spring. You can also make a bigger loop by adding St RT 3 from Louisa to Ashland, and hitting US 60 back to Grayson, lots of different ways to access and make it larger or smaller.

Rode this route in September 2011. Taking your time, it takes about an hour and forty five minutes from Louisa to Morehead. The road is in good condition and has plenty of curves. Lots of nice scenery including Yatesville Lake. Rode this on a Saturday and there was little traffic. Not too many gas stations along the way, but plenty in Louisa or Morehead. I would definitely recommend this route. It was a very enjoyable ride that I will positively do again.

09/07/13...Rode part of this route, from Grayson to Sandy Hook to Louisa. Almost all new asphalt, no potholes, very light traffic. More bikes than cagers. Weather was beautiful, as was the scenery. Loved the twisties/switchbacks. Going back to get the rest of it, from Sandy Hook to Morehead. I think I found a new 'favorite' ride. If you are in the area, this is a MUST RIDE.

An amazing ride. Fast sweeping curves, mountain twisties, beautiful scenery. Plenty of gas stops but not a lot else as far as amenities. Some big coal trucks but there are spots to get around them, otherwise not too much traffic on a Saturday.

Rode this route 4 or 5 times in preparation for a group charity ride we were hosting.
Has gas stops in Morehead, Paintsville, and a few in between.
We made a loop out of it, returning back around Cave Run Lake. It was a great longer ride for the group.
Several very tight curves, and overall nice scenery.

Started in Louisa, grabbed some breakfast at Hardees and rode west. Fantastic ride!!! Pavement is great! I notice a little bit a gravel in a turn or two, did notice a few places where a heavy rain may wash some out on the road, If I recall one was a construction site, new house or something. We had open road prolly 80% of the time. Simply awesome! We'll be back just to ride this again!

I rode up from London, KY to Morehead just ride this route. It was very nice over-all. It's got everything a Rider can ask for. Lots of elevation changes and twisty curves. Some real legit 15 MPH switchbacks. Only down side was some cracks in the road, a few patch overs from recent flooding. Once into Elliott County the pavement improved.
