I ran this road June 2011 in reverse - Missoula to Lewiston. The sign just over the top says it all - "Curvy Road next 99 miles" - they are not kidding. This is a super fun road and the scenery stunning.

If you live in the state of Oregon, or Washington, and planning a ride to Montana, Sturgis, or all points to the East....get to US HWY 12 near Walla Walla/Pendleton...and cross Idaho on Lolo Hwy to Missoula. One of the best bike routes in the state...beautiful forest scenery and curves for more than 200 miles along the clearwater river system....Excellent ride !!

Sharp Curves for next ninety nine miles we affectionally call this the LoLo Pass route. Easy sweepers and nice ride cant really get yourself in trouble unless your trying to set a speed record. Their is a gas Station as well as restaurant at the Locksa Lodge halfway between Missoula and Kamiah.

First time in my riding that I actually thought there were too many turns and was looking for some straight stuff:) Stayed at Lolo hot springs and had a great dinner there also. Excellent ride, great scenery, plenty of curves!

The poster gives all you need to know. Just a beautiful run for all the mountain portion. I would have no problem running this route every week. Be sure to read the info boards about the history--there's plenty here.
The two ends by cities are typical with all services and people.

Have ridden this 3 times, 2 west to east, 1 east to west. Has never been anything but fabulous. Best part is the complete lack of overpasses and nearly complete lack of access.

Great ride, flew all the way out from CT to ride it. Me and 2 buddies rented 3 Electra Glide Classics from Eagle Rider in Missoula; they were FANTASTIC. Rode all over MT, SD and WY for a week. The scenery here is simply amazing. The road is great on a bike, many curves, but not too technical. Nothing out there but the road. From Kooskia we shot up to Coeur d'Alene and over to Glacier, back down to blast to the Custer Battlefield, and on to SD. Then south WY and back up to Missoula through Yellowstone. Best trip we ever took.

Not a lot of new information I can post about this ride. It's a must-ride for anyone. Great road, great scenery, never boring. That's one think I will say about this route, even though it's long and fairly repetitive in scenery and corners, it just never gets old. Every corner is stunningly beautiful and just as fun and interesting as the last.

Legendary. I actually prefer it to the famous Beartooth Pass (Hwy 212) over by Red Lodge because we can ride more aggressively on this road for the entire stretch. Heading west, just after you pass the state line, keep your eye peeled for the classic road sign (photo op) "Curving Road Next 99 Miles." As with any mountain pass, you also have to look out for wild game. If you're lucky, you might see a moose between the pass and the town of Lolo.
