i agree this is an awesome ride. the only thing i would add is that when your on 54 in ashland take a right onto 61 and go like 3 miles to the town called centralia. as your going up the hill the road turns to the right. well stop there and look over the barrier and the road is all caved in cuz theres a coal fire underground. up that road some more you can see smoke coming off the hills on the left. very cool. definitely worth the few extra miles. theres a cool looking church over there too

Good route ! Like others have noted above - if you are in the area - you really should take a brief detour on PA61 and check-out the ruins of old PA61 at the top of the hill.

Rt. 54 is a great ride. Great view of windmills on top of the blue mountains. Not much left in Centralia except the smoking ground. Most of the roads are turned over with mounds of dirt. As you turn north on Rt. 61 from Ashland there is a road along the cemetary on your left. The ground is smoking in that area.

I thought this ride was pretty cool! I stopped in Ashville and did a tour of one of the coal mines. Very interesting. Ashville is also a great town to drive through.
