I drive a 1985 Nissan 300ZX non-turbo manual, and I live in Cleveland. Where the heck can I drive this thing legally and have fun?!? Searching for "best driving roads in northeast Ohio" I found some pretty good reviews of SR 164. Had an itch in my pants and the day off, so starting from the west side of Cleveland, I set off for 164 this afternoon. 77 down, 30 across, 644 nice road to Salineville, and then, just wow.
I've driven on some twisties, and some hillies, but nothing even close to this combination of hills and corners. What a great road! 55mph most of the time, and you better be careful going 60mph, because there will be surprises! So many blind corners! Especially dangerous the blind crests, you launch over at 60mph and suddenly you're supposed to be going right even though you have no grip, thank god nothing was in the other lane!
This is definitely road to be driven multiple times to get the best out of it. Very technical! It even has a Laguna Seca Corkscrew! Totally worth the drive and back from West Park!

A pretty fun road in it's own right. Nothing crazy, but recommended if you're in the area. Road surface was ok, not much in the way of road debris.

Great ride once you get a few miles south of Lisbon. I have ridden it several times. At Amsterdam take Rt. 43 south a few miles and you will come to a few bars with good food.

This road definitely commands respect, pay attention to the speed warnings on the curves, its always easier to add speed in a curve than take it away! The scenery was gorgeous and i loved the small towns it passes through, some areas have no cell service. Rode on a Thursday and there was some semi traffic, i pulled off and let them get ahead, from then on i basically had the road to myself. Be mindful of blind intersections from farming side roads. The road was a challenge and reward, i loved this ride!

rode with the chapter over Memorial Day weekend. As you go through the little towns and think the fun is all over, it starts all over again

Started in Leesville, 45 miles of twist and turns, well about 40, the last 4-5 miles before Lisbon pretty plain, an awesome ride though! Cannot speak for the scenery, need to stay focused on the road, lacks signs for what lies ahead, but that’s nothing new. Blind hills, blind curves, all kinds of twists and turns, this route has it all, I think it is one of the best in Ohio! Traffic very light, pavement was pretty good, like I said... need to stay focused, if not you could get yourself in trouble real quick. Not much in the way of food and gas till ya get to Lisbon. Fun ride, can’t wait to do it again!

Very Good road! Best I have seen in eastern OH.
(make sure you enter it Rt. 170 in GPS or map quest... I think that is it's correct name)
I took a trip from Erie, PA to Wheeling , WV last weekend and specificly road over to OH to check this one out. Good pavement and NICE TURNS(especialy for my CBR) ! I thought I was in heaven... untill I reached West Virginia, then I realized it was just purgatory. I will now be taking this road when I go south through OH ! Thanks!

went on this ride today (6/1/08) where rt 170 crosses rt 14 goin south is a blast hitting a lot of awesome turns all the way down to calcutta, but rt 170 north of rt 14 won't be something i will be doing again, just wasn't that great, nice scenery but mostly straight roads and goin into poland i seen 3 cops within a few miles of each other FTP!, but it was def. worth the trip to hit 170 south of 14 to calcutta, i def recommend it!

Best part is from East Palistine to Calcutta. When you get to Calcula search for Beaver Creek State Park. Enjoy the twisty narrow road into the park. Instead of returning the way you came in cross over the bridge, climb the mountain and then take the first right back to route7. This ride will keep you smiling

One of my favorite NE Ohio rides. If you are coming from North of this area, you can jump over to Route 9 and take that back up North!! Both route 164 AND Route 9 are exceptional motoring roads!! You'll be near Salem, so stop in and check out BB Rooners bar/restaraunt while in the area for lunch/dinner. It is owned by a biker, and has a great outside deck...

I just rode this route. 6/21/10. I would recommend this road to any avid motorcycle rider. I was quite impressed for a road in Ohio. It has a good mix of tight and sweeping turns and great scenery. Just pay attention to the road signs so you dont suprised by some of the turns.

Don't miss the "steel trolley diner" in Lisbon. It's on main street (rt 30 ?) just east of the intersection with 164. Work up an appetite first.

Awesome ride... 164 was recently repaved and it was a ton of fun to ride! Definatly a techinical challenge at times, pay attention for the stop sign warnings!
Can't wait to head back there and do it again... it's a hidden gem with very light traffic.

I rode Route 164 today (8 Aug 2010) from Lisbon to Leesville. I saw a lot of crotch rockets in the area. The road condition is very good. Some parts have new pavement. I did have a couple pucker moments where there was loose gravel on the road on a couple of the turns just west of Kilgore. Other than that, it was a great time. As far as twisties go, I've been on better roads in the past but it wasn't bad. I'm already talking about a revisit before winter comes. I live about two hours away from the road but it was worth the trip.

Rode it today South from Lisbon. Crazy fun road, actually scary at times. Lot's of blind hills, and some gravel in turns. Very roller coaster like, one of the best I've been on as far as curves go. Definitely can't comment on the scenery because there was no time to look around. This one will keep you busy! Exercise some caution on this road. Not recommended for beginner.

My husband and I rode this about a month ago..I on a cruiser, he on a sport bike. VERY fun ride....new pavement almost the entire way to Leesville. There WAS a little gravel at times and we also had a deer jump out in front of us, so do be careful and watchful at all times. This would be a GORGEOUS ride when the trees change color and we will definitely go back for that. I agree that stopping at the Steel Trolley Diner is a must....I also agree that you need to bring your appetite, as the burgers are HUGE. We made the mistake of ordering a "whole" basket of fries, which was enough for 4 people.

Ran this at speed with a group of Honda S2000 drivers on a fall foliage tour. Yep, we like the same roads! Great road for a 4-tired Honda! A bit of gravel after a rain.
Nice restaurant at Atwood Lake SP handled 30 of us for lunch.

This is a great ride...HOWEVER....as of 6/12/17 SR164 will be closed for 60 days. Avoid the area...a bunch of natural gas pipelines are being laid...big truck etc.

I ride this road frequently, as I’m fairly local and it is easily the best road we have in the area for great turns and elevation change. 164 is an absolute blast! But it can eat you up quickly if you’re not careful. There area few decreasing radius turns to be careful on and many blind hills and curves that can send you scooting. The pavement is in great shape, though there are a few sections that often have gravel or dirt tracked onto the road from side roads or farmers driving tractors between fields and barns (respect). Final item to provide warning; there is lots of wildlife along the corridors of 164. I’ve had numerous close calls with deer, turkeys, opossums, raccoons, and even domestic cats, so regardless of what and how you’re driving on this road, stay aware & cautious as necessary, but get ready to have a blast!

Rode Rt164, from the south north Aug 7, chip and seal first 10 miles, took it slow. We could pick up the speed and it turned into a very good ride! Not so technical to me but was interesting enough to to be alert. Visited Numbers Brewery in Lisbon for some great appetizers!

Simply a great ride. Part of 3 day ride through Ohio and WVA from Zelienople PA. This ride was part of the trip to Marietta OH and gave great curves to the beginners (like me) and the experienced riders. Best ride of the trip.
