This route was a total bust. Maybe it;s a good ride for people who live in Long Island but if you are not local don't wast your time. Tons of stoplights, traffic, and there are barely any water views. Not sure why it's getting so much praise. Don't bother with it.

The best part of this route was omitted. 25A east through Kings Park. When the road turns south(st. Johns land rd) stay straight. Take Rose St. To the end. Make right on Landing Ave. next light make a left on Edgewood Ave. next light make a left on Nissequogue River Road. At end of road make a right on Moriches rd. Next light will be 25A make left and rejoin route.

I must have missed something. I started off in Glen Cove and followed the described route. The route doesn't go through Lattingtown or Locust Valley, despite mentioning them for some reason.
I admit that I only got to Laurel Hollow before I gave up on the route. No twisting turns, no sweeping turns, really no... turns. And as for scenery, you'll be treated to little more than driveways and signs for condo developments.
I hope Long Island has more to offer than this, since it's the closest place to my home in the East Village that I have any chance of finding nice roads.

Ive been riding for 30 years. Yes that is a great ride. I have the honor of being somewhere on the route any given day, I live in Glen Cove. Does any one no of any other places or routes or stops on long island that they can share

Nice ride. Done it many times - never gets old. Changing seasons make it interesting too. If riding on a Saturday or Sunday be sure to visit Billy Joel's 20th Century Cycle shop in Oyster Bay. Nice people, excellently restored and modified vintage bikes. Worth a trip all by itself.

The road is described very well by Alan.
It is a nice run for Long Island, one of the most boring places in the state to ride.
I also followed Paul's suggestion and added the Robert Moses-Ocean Pwky. ride back.

Great ride, excellent description. Kept going east to Orient Point, took the ferry across, and ultimately to Mohegan Sun (concert, casino). Took the same route back. A lot of excellent places to stop and relax and eat. Picturesque scenery and towns. Lots of wineries. Just make sure you stay on 25A. Merges with 25 near Smithtown and that's not a pleasant ride.

Now that I can remenice, I would add the trip to Robert Moses. Take Take the sunken meadow parkway south to the southern state parkway west to the Robert moses parkway to jones beach. This is a real stretch of long island allowing you to open up on the open road. Bridges, beaches, boats and seafood. Go for it! Ride safe, Alan.

I've done this ride every year. The best part is parking at the beach and watching the sun set.

You can also travel south on the Sagtikos Pkwy and take Ocean Pkwy back west and ride along Jones beach. Real nice ride.

Some parts were awesome. Too bad COvid-19 makes it tough to stop and enjoy some of the eateries along the way.
most of it is through rural areas but the houses were great to see and you ride through some little towns you never heard of. I live in long island for over 20 years.

I’ve been riding this route for over thirty years. Used to be an every Sunday ride with the brother in law. Lots of nice twisty roads and beautiful scenery if you take it easy. Beware the local police departments, who like setting up speed traps. Early in the morning is best, as the traffic becomes heavy after 11am. There are many side routes to take that are tight and curvy.

It's pretty nice, usually through shaded forest areas, but some roads are bad and filled with potholes at times, maybe the reverse direction is better than normal one

Probably the best ride on Long Island....IF you're from here. I typically try to get off the Island for some good riding, but this route is a great option if plans don't pan out. I wouldn't think it would be worth a trip on it's own to travel here to do it, but if you're coming here anyway, by all means, bring the bike! Truly the best roads for elevation, scenery & history Long Island has to offer!
