Simply put...this is a 'must ride' if in the area. There are many great roads just a short drive west and southwest of St. Louis but this route is the first route I mention to out-of-towners and locals looking for an enjoyable Sunday ride.

While your running 94 you need to take a detour and head north toward Pendleton on B hwy. Doun't worry about how to get back to 94, after taking a run up B you will have no problem turning around and running it in the opposite direction. Great road, smooth pavement, but will definately challange you. Will also leave you grinning when you're finished.

Great route, moderate curves for MO. Very fun on cruisers at posted speed limit, sport bikes should push the throttle a bit more. Lots of gravel access roads, but road deck is clear thanks to amount of local traffic. Many places to stop along way. Food, drink and local history being major hot spots.
One caution, this is MO wine country with many wineries along the route. Take extra care on weekends, late afternoon to sunset. Watch for vehicles crowding center line after leaving the wineries.

If you live in the area and have not taken this ride you are missing out. Took the route from Saint Charles to Herman for the first time yesterday, then made a return run. 150 miles round trip. On a Sunday afternoon I did not encounter too many vehicles along the way. There were a few slow points and if you are unfortunate to catch up with a car through the twisty bits you will not have many passing options. There are some flat wide open areas, lots of elevation changes, lots of speed changes, fast curves, slower curves. Just an overall exciting ride. Note of caution, outside of Defiance there are a few spots where the road on the inside of the curve has busted off leaving a few good size holes along the white line. Keep that in mind when turning in hard. RIDE SAFE AND ENJOY!!

Great route! Very scenic and curvy. Definitely watch out for drunk drivers. It's no secret that people drive drunk out there and they often have police check points spring up out of nowhere.

Just completed this trip. Rode from Interstate 64 to Jeff city. Great rode to ride. I Would recommend doing this during the week. I could see how the weekend the road way would get busy with all the wineries along the way.

Great winding road,,,smooth, curvy, with scenery around every turn....wine lovers beware, there are more than a handful of wineries who want to tempt you with their culinary tastes, make sure u end up at StoneHill winery , simply the best of the best....very historic little town to cruise around in as well......Daniel Boone's homestead on the route was well worth taking in , good for a little stretching the legs break, all in all,,,one of the best road trips I've encountered on two wheels...the only way to travel........

Caution: Many wineries on the twisty, high speed, and narrow Hwy 94 between Hwy 40 and Augusta, MO make for frequent treacherous encounters with drunk drivers crossing the center line. Great ride for week days or before noon on weekends. Otherwise, I keep clear of this area. For more fearless riders, there are two excellent 'biker bars' in Defiance (not rowdy, good crowd, everyone welcome, frequent live music on weekends).

OCT 2020 UPDATE: Hwy 94 has been completely repaved with new asphalt from Hwy 47 to Hwy 19. Yes, that's real rolled asphalt, not "chip and seal". Makes the ride even more enjoyable (if that's possible).

Nice roads with moderate flowing curves and moderate elevation changes for the area. Spend some time in Hermann when you're done, preferably at the Wurst Haus for some outstanding bratwurst.

Definitely one of the gems of Missouri. I'll second the comments about the suburban part of the route from St. Charles to Weldon Springs; the real fun starts west of Weldon Springs (an alternative starting point is the I-64/Hwy 94 interchange). Mostly moderate turns and elevation changes, but be careful: there are a few places on the route where really tight, slow speed turns (marked 10, 15, or 20 MPH) sneak up on you (speed limit is 55 MPH for most of the route). Once you get to Hermann, if you're heading back to the St. Louis area, you can take Hwy 19 north to I-70 (with an option to angle off on Hwy Y east to I-70), take Hwy 94 back east to Hwy B north to I-70, or take either Hwy 19 or Hwy 100 south to I-44 (optionally, Hwy 19 south to US 50 east to I-44).
