Written Directions
Route starts at the intersection of Hwy 141 and Old Lemay Ferry Road in Arnold, Jefferson County, MO, and goes the entire length of the road, ending at Sandy Creek Covered Bridge State Historic Site, Hillsboro, MO.
Scenery
Old Lemay Ferry Road is a classic Missouri road, rolling through the hills of Jefferson County. Once past the short modern section just south of Hwy 141, it takes you past exurban subdivisions, heavily wooded, with many creek valleys and ridge tops.
Drive Enjoyment
The pavement is in good condition over most of it's length, with the inevitable cracks and patches of a heavily travelled, county maintained road. It's a real roller coaster ride in many places, include blind curve/summit combinations. For those that remember, it's a lot like what Hwy 21 used to be like before it was tamed (the OLD Old Hwy 21).
Tourism Opportunities
The only real tourism site on the route is at the southern end, which is at Sandy Creek Covered Bridge State Historic Site. Unfortunately, the bridge itself is closed to vehicles, but it's only a short walk from the parking area to the bridge.
Motorcycle Road Additional info
Since the road doesn't go through the bridge to Old Hwy 21 as it originally did, after visiting the bridge (or before it, if you choose not skip it), turn west off of Old Lemay Ferry Road onto Goldman Spur Rd (last right before the park, first left leaving the park), and take the S curve up the hill to connect to Old Hwy 21.
