Written Directions

To start this route, get yourself to the intersection of US Hwy 6 and Rt 49 (mid way between Chesterton and Valparaiso). From there just take US Rt 6 east all the way to Walkerton, IN.

Scenery

Completely rural countryside with some residential areas ... beautiful summer/fall ride.

Drive Enjoyment

Two-lane highway traveling through the countryside. This is northwest Indiana so it's pretty much flat ... elevation doesn't really change. :-(

Tourism Opportunities

Few small towns offer gas, a convenience store or two, and not much more. You'll be taking this route for the sleep rural scenery not the things to do along the way.

This road is not exciting at all. But if you must....go all the way to the Indiana Dunes near IN/MI line. That's about the only pretty area in NW Indiana.

I live near the starting point of this trip and it is a nice ride, No, it's not exciting scenery, mostly country and corn fields, but warning in June 09, there is a detour shortly after Rt 49, might take you over to Rt 30 then back to 6, but 30 is not too bad a ride, though faster and more traffic. If you are looking for scenery and things to do, go further north to Rt 12 for the dunes ride, but 6 is a nice peaceful ride and yes, you can keep heading east if you are not ready to stop :^)
