Written Directions
Just northeast of Fort Collins, CO is the town of Laporte. This route starts in Laporte where you want to take Rist Canyon Road which starts off of US 287B and heads west. Stay straight on the Rist Canyon Road until the end of the route when it dead ends after ~13 miles. By the way, if you take a right, the road will eventually lead you back to Poudre Canyon Road (highway 14) and back to 287 north of Fort Collins or if you instead take a left, there is another wonderful ride through the foothills ... this road will eventually dead end into highway 34.
Scenery
The road is through a mountainous canyon, so there are beautiful trees, gorgeous streams, frequent mountain wildlife, beautiful hidden valleys, and scenic ridges. A great example of northern Colorado's foothills and mountains.
Drive Enjoyment
Constant twisties throughout. Pavement is generally in good condition, but hazards exist. Loose gravel exists on some corners most of the year, and there are a few cattle grates to watch out for.
Tourism Opportunities
This short canyon ride has no amenities. However, it is close distance to the city of Fort Collins, Laporte, and Loveland should you need something.
Motorcycle Road Additional info
Unlike the first part of Highway 14, this road does not get heavy traffic on the weekends. As a starting leg for the walden loop, it is much preferred.
