Written Directions

From Denver you head southwest on US 285 until you reach Pine Junction (CO 126). Turn south on 126 at the lights in Pine Junction. Follow that through Pine Grove until you reach Deckers. There the road joins with CO 67 at Deckers and you continue following it south through the Hayman Fire burn area until you reach the end point of Woodland Park, CO.

Scenery

There is lots of things to see along this route, you travel along the South Platte just outside Pine Grove, and then climb out of the valley for some stunning vistas and windy roads. Then you will head back down into Deckers and cross another river. You will pass through several burn areas including the High Meadows and the Hayman. As you near Woodland Park there are several opportunities to capture Pikes Peak.

Drive Enjoyment

The roads is paved the entire way and can have pretty heavy motorcycle traffic on summer weekends. Most of the rode has curves, some will sneak up on you so ride safe. There is also an area just to the north of Deckers that can have fine gravel spread across the road from commuters cutting corners. I have had several friends go down in that section just from going a little to fast. Other than that the rode is in fine condition and a blast to ride.

Tourism Opportunities

There is not much a long this stretch. If you are looking for cold beverage, the Buck Snort Saloon is a quick gravel road ride out of Pine Grove. Deckers has a coffee shop and small store. From that point, there is nothing until you get to Woodland Park. They have coffee shops, Wal-mart, eateries, and many other things.

Motorcycle Road Additional info

- Here is a link to a slideshow of my entire trip. I put 1,200 miles over the 4th of july weekend across the CO western slope of south central mountains. Bagged a bunch of scenic roads. Might add a few roads and reviews soon. LINK: https://s780.photobucket

I rode Hwy 141 in August, 2009. Great ride with lots of scenery and Black Bear. If you are traveling south on 141 look out for a water spring in a small grove of trees beside the road on the west side of the roadway just before the Montrose Co line. Good water to drink coming out off the side of the cliff. Be sure to stop at the Hanging Flume turnout to look down at the Delores River about 300 + feet below. I traveled on to Ouray and went over Red Mountain Pass on sleety roads - not for the faint of heart.

Took this route July 2009. Great road for cruisers--not too twisty, lots of sweeps, a handful of near-hairpins and great rolling terrain without steep grades. Vistas open up north of Deckers where the road straightens out a bit and you can relax and take in the panoramas. Definitely watch for gravel between Deckers and Woodland Park. Lots of camping areas just north of WP if you prefer to rough it. Last gas stop out of WP is convenience store on north side of town. Don't remember any between there and Pineview.Took this ride on a Thursday and came across very few bikes. Definitely worth the 500+ miles to get there.
