Written Directions
Route starts and ends at Lodge in Breaks Interstate park.
Travel south to Flannigan Dam, Haysi, Dante, St Paul, Nicklesville, Gate City and lunch in Kingsport at Riverside.
North back to Gate City, Fort Blackmore, Dungagnon, Clintwood, Clincho, Haysi and back to park.
Scenery
Route makes multiple climbs with frequent views of the valleys. Much of the ride is along rivers and lunch is beside rapids of river in Kingsport.
Drive Enjoyment
Pavement overall good but in high spots or along river watch for pavement sinking near edge which is a common problem in this type terrain. Road is twisty with multiple climbs and descents. Traffic is light other than getting into Kingsport. Gas is readily available but food stops are limited.
Tourism Opportunities
Breaks Interstae Park is a great outdoor adventure with hiking and water sports. The Cawtaba lodge has a great view of the valley so reservations definitely required to get a room there. Good campground in park. Expect park to be busy in summer or during fall colors.
Motorcycle Road Additional info
Have been meeting twice a year with same group for 12 years. Different location each time. We enjoy twisty mountain roads. Group agreed this was the best riding we have experienced. We have stayed places like Robbinsville, Tellico Plains Maggie Valley, Little Switzerland, Tazwell and others.
Route patched together with help from Appalachian Back Roads but their loops are mostly shorter and not passing the park. probably 60% of this route can be found across several of their maps.
