Start in Mt. Carroll, IL. Head north on route 78. Just about a mile north of Mt. Carroll and you will see the sign for Elizabeth, IL. Turn left on "County Road 10/Elizabeth Route" and follow that for about 8.3 miles ... it is the most scenic road around. Take a right where County Road 10 and County Road 5 merge and stay on that for about 3.6 miles. Then take a left on to County Road 10 for a short .3 miles where you will quickly take a right on to S. Derinda Road. Stay on that for 7.7 miles then take a left on to US 20/Ulysses S. Grant Memorial Highway. Take US 20 into the route's end point of Elizabeth, IL. The key on this route is to just watch the signs because you will have to take a right, a left and then a right to stay on route. Note On the west-side of town, you can go up to Scale Mounds or stay on Rt. 20 to Galena (good food & shopping) if you like too.Scenery
