I've been on the road before, but recently led a small group of eight bikes on this. A beautiful, twisty road with very light (if any) traffic. It is often referred to as the "Redneck Dragon." At the TN/NC border you cross the Appalachian Trail and pavement ends. Just make sure you're there in relatively dry weather. The packed dirt and light gravel were no problem for my rider, mostly on heavy touring bikes. It's 1.2 miles like this and has a couple switchbacks. You simply ride slowly and it's not a problem.
I've ridden in 45 states. This is one of my favorite roads. A very pleasant ride and highly recommended.
