Written Directions

Start Charmco, WV and take Highway 20 all the way north until you end in Buckhannon, WV. The best section is Webster Springs to Rock Cave!

Scenery

Great twisty road to ride but not many grand wide open scenic vistas. But you will be passing through nice rolling countryside with plenty of green pastures and thick forested hills.Road Quality: 4Road surface was mostly good but lower sections from Charmco, WV to Craigsville, WV had a few rough patches. Suggest riding section from Webster Springs to Rock Cave (north or south) as fabulous never ending twisties and great road surface and very few cars.Roadside Amenities:: 3Monongahela National Forest and Holly River State Park are close buy if you want a side trip.

I grew up further north in Harrison County. Whenever we are headed south to Buckhannon, Rock Cave, etc. we always take Rt. 20. The scenery is great. Some more curves in Harrison County just out of Barbour County/Upshur County lines into the Quiet Dell section which leads to I79. We currently live at the insection of Rt. 50 & Rt. 20. Watch lots of bikes go by our house all the time. We overlook the Joyce Street Bridge in Clarksburg. rpratt@ma.rr.com

Great road lots of elevation change and twisty road....watch out for gravel some truck traffic and they can lose gravel in the corners. Gas and food available. Nice state park for camping RT 33 Glenville.

Update from West Virginia’s Road Ranger (July 31st, 2020): Route 20 is pretty rough. It seem like certain counties (municipalities?) take better care of it that others, but coming North out of Webster Springs can be pretty iffy, on a bike. I give it a poor grade until Diana, and then I can’t comment. Perhaps www.wv511.org will notify you if there’s any construction.
