Written Directions

Auburn, WA to Cumberland, WA:Starting from Main St. in Auburn, head East, and turn right on the Auburn-Black Diamond Rd. Continue east a couple miles. Right after passing under Hwy. 18, veer right onto SE Green Valley Rd. Stay on this for about 10 miles, until you hit Hwy 169. Take a left and continue a mile north to Black Diamond. At the CenEx gas station, turn right on Lawson Street, and continue east to the Green River Gorge bridge. Just past the bridge, you will wind up the hill and turn left on SE Green River Gorge Rd. Take this a couple miles east until you hit the Cumberland Rd. You will immediately come into the hamlet of Cumberland, with the City Hall Saloon on your left.

Scenery

This route starts out in the Green Valley, winding through the farmlands along the Green River, before climbing up out of the Gorge to Black Diamond. Proceeding east, it crosses the Gorge Bridge, providing a spectacular view of the river and cascading waterfalls. Heading further east, this route passes through forestland, before ending up at the tiny town of Cumberland.

Drive Enjoyment

There are very few straight roads on this route; most are windy & provide some great opportunities to test out your cornering ability! In the middle, there are some rough patches, but most of it is really smooth.

Tourism Opportunities

Along the way, you will find roadside fruit stands & a great slaughterhouse that has the best elk jerky! This route passes Flaming Geyser State Park, where you can take a break and watch the model airplanes that congregate there, or have a bbq with friends. Black Diamond has their famous bakery, but a great little pizza place as well. It's a great place to fuel up, too. The Piece de Resistance is Cumberland's City Hall Saloon, where hundreds bikes of all types will congregate most Thursdays during the summer for Tacos & beers.

Motorcycle Road Additional info

Watch for elk and bear crossing the road - we've seen them both from time to time!

I ride this quicck getaway road often Between Auburn and Black Diamond. You move from Suburban to Rural in a very short span. At the start of Green Valley Highway is an awesome butcher shop, Green Valley Meats. After that the road is awesome until you reach the Flaming Geyser State Park. Here the road condition is bad until you reach WA169. A very windy section is wrought with uneven and split blacktop which evens out for a short straight, At the end of the short straight however, slow down the road condition becomes so bad I damaged a rim hitting ripped up pavement and nearly missed the stop at WA169 due to gravel.

I did this ride today, was quite pleasant and road-hazard free. Be aware, Black Diamond is a small town and, 25 means 25. The police were at the city limits ticketing a bike when I drove through. There weren't any issues with the provided route or descriptions of the ride, it was a good and relaxing trip!

Nice ride if you have very little time to get out and ride, with working full time and a father of two its hard to find time. Taco run is not to long but not too short it has mild curves and has very scenic landscapes like rivers, farmland, cows horses.
