Written Directions

Skyline drive begins in Front Royal, VA which is about 80 miles west of Washington DC. Just hop on Skyline drive and take it south all the way through the Shenandoah National Park ... the end point is basically the town of Waynesboro, VA. From there you can either turn around and do this awesome road again or you could conveniently continue right on to the Blue Ridge Parkway (... another fan

Scenery

You'll be riding through the beautiful Shenandoah National Park and see great mountain views and wildlife like deer and an occasional black bear ... but you'd better pay attention to the road as its loaded with turns!

Drive Enjoyment

It's 105 miles of twisty mountain roads....all smooth, clean road. Speed limit is only 35 mph due to the wilderness and mountains. You may reach 50mph but even at 35 it's very relaxing and enjoyable. Note: it can be damp in the morning from the elevation of the mountains.

Tourism Opportunities

Camping....hiking...sightseeing throughout Shenandoah National Park. Plenty of places to pull over, stretch the legs, and take in the beautiful views.

Wonderful ride! Rode the 105 miles from Front Royal to Waynesboro. Scenery is breathtaking, with plenty of places to stop and rest and admire the beauty. Saw one bear that crossed the road about 50 feet in front of us, and numerous deer. Excellent pavement and sufficient amenities along the way. Speed limit is 35 mph, which is just about right. Plan on taking at least 4 hours to make the ride. A must-do ride!!

Great ride, I went as per instructed, but turned around after the tunnel, which is shorty after RT 211 (about halfway) - the scenery was great, and the ride when I doubled back was even better as all the traffic seems to come from the north gate southbound. I took Rt 55 which was also fun and dined at Apples Homemade BBQ - vgood!

The Best Road I've ever ridden. Went in July . The weather was great and the road condition was even better, no pot holes, no gravel, no leaves. $10.00 toll per bike but was well worth it. I think I want to live somewhere along the Drive. LOVED IT!!! The hundred miles flew by.
