Written Directions

Skyline drive begins in Front Royal, VA which is about 80 miles west of Washington DC. Just hop on Skyline drive and take it south all the way through the Shenandoah National Park ... the end point is basically the town of Waynesboro, VA. From there you can either turn around and do this awesome road again or you could conveniently continue right on to the Blue Ridge Parkway (... another fan

Scenery

You'll be riding through the beautiful Shenandoah National Park and see great mountain views and wildlife like deer and an occasional black bear ... but you'd better pay attention to the road as its loaded with turns!

Drive Enjoyment

It's 105 miles of twisty mountain roads....all smooth, clean road. Speed limit is only 35 mph due to the wilderness and mountains. You may reach 50mph but even at 35 it's very relaxing and enjoyable. Note: it can be damp in the morning from the elevation of the mountains.

Tourism Opportunities

Camping....hiking...sightseeing throughout Shenandoah National Park. Plenty of places to pull over, stretch the legs, and take in the beautiful views.

Great ride even in the rain. We caught a lot of fog early in the morning at high altitude.

rode here from ohio on rt 50; trip over was good , mostly twisting up and down hilly terrain, mostly good roads; the skyway was even better, beautiful scenery and great rods, very little traffic (went 6-12 to 6-22 of 2009); nice roadside views and a few areas on the skyway to fuel up or get food; pretty remote otherwise; traveled then to the blueridge parkway and road it until storms and low clouds made riding impossible to continue....will definitley go back!

I rode the entire Skyline as part of a trip from NY to FL on my KLR 650 ADV bike. Shenandoah is a lovely park, and Skyline is a mello ride with lots of curves. Occasionally you'll get stuck behind a slow moving car & marked passing zones are few and far between, but the slow ones usually pull off at the next overlook anyway. The views are really nice though so you might want to pull over as well - just leave before the slow guy :)
