Written Directions

Skyline drive begins in Front Royal, VA which is about 80 miles west of Washington DC. Just hop on Skyline drive and take it south all the way through the Shenandoah National Park ... the end point is basically the town of Waynesboro, VA. From there you can either turn around and do this awesome road again or you could conveniently continue right on to the Blue Ridge Parkway (... another fan

Scenery

You'll be riding through the beautiful Shenandoah National Park and see great mountain views and wildlife like deer and an occasional black bear ... but you'd better pay attention to the road as its loaded with turns!

Drive Enjoyment

It's 105 miles of twisty mountain roads....all smooth, clean road. Speed limit is only 35 mph due to the wilderness and mountains. You may reach 50mph but even at 35 it's very relaxing and enjoyable. Note: it can be damp in the morning from the elevation of the mountains.

Tourism Opportunities

Camping....hiking...sightseeing throughout Shenandoah National Park. Plenty of places to pull over, stretch the legs, and take in the beautiful views.

Go easy on the loud pipes here, as you're driving directly through an otherwise very quiet camping area and National Park. :-)
That said, Mountain Meadows is an awesome stop, and the amenities here are unbelievably good for being on a mountain ridgeline that's several miles to the nearest town at any point.

As far as scenic motorcycle routes go, the skyline drive is by far the best (and most abundant at it) road I have been on in my travels so far. Which includes the entire eastern third of the US with nearly 100,000 miles on 2 wheels. The skyline drive and entire blue ridge parkway is perfectly spaced with viewing areas and boasts endless stretches of scenic views. It's you, the road, and open-air nature. Amenities are kind of scarce but that's what I hope for on a good day's ride, but be aware of your gas and plan ahead.

Great road! Took your advice and went for the ride and it was every bit as enjoyable as was described, although I found the most fun part of the ride this road called 211 which comes right down the side of the mountain and for a sport bike is definitely alot of fun!
