Written Directions

Start in Southeast Utah near the town of Blanding, UT at the intersection of US Highway 191 and Route 95. Then simply take Route 95 west into Natural Bridges National Monument. The one way trip will be about 40 miles. If you want to continue on, Route 95 runs West-Northwest to Hanksville, Utah. All of Southern Utah is part of the Moab/Canyonlands/Monument Valley/Bryce Canyon Basin. There are NO bad roads here! This area is a "MUST SEE"/"MUST RIDE" AREA!!! May regret giving my opinion, as I/We plan to return to this area from Rhode Island!

Scenery

30/40/50 mile vistas! High Desert. Red Rock. Geological riff! Natural Bridges National Monument! Keep a camera hanging from your neck while riding...USE IT..you'll want to remember this ride "FOREVER"!!.

Drive Enjoyment

Great road. NO TRAFFIC!! Elevation changes. MUST TRAVEL BOTH DIRECTIONS TO APPRECIATE!!!

Tourism Opportunities

Nothing there! THAT'S THE POINT!! Restrooms at Natural Bridges National Monument. Note: However, if you continue on Route 95, you can also visit the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

This is a great road! Riding in May 2010 weather permitting. To answer Rick H. question about gas. There is Hite Marina off 95 on the east side of lake powell (may still be a dirt road), however, with changing water levels this remote store with regular gas may or may not be open. Call ahead. Its between 125-130 miles from Blanding to Hanksville without side excursions. If you have a small gas tank you can use fuel bottles found at outdoor rec. stores ie REI. 2 quarts of fuel often gets you to the next gas station. OR if you have a big crusier and a small tank sportser you can find a hand pump siphon. These have saved several of us from gas crisis in the past before we purchased bigger crusiers. Hope that helps.

-- I love desert country where you can see so many rock formations and such long distances beckoning you to come. At Natural Bridges, I have found small corn kernels from the Anasazis. At Fry Canyon to the east, is a fantastic cliff dwelling in a small canyon. I climbed down to it once--quite an adventure. --
