Written Directions

Route starts between Sugar Land and Rosenberg at the Crabb River Road exit from Hwy 59. (Yes there are two "b's" in the name Crabb.) Take Crabb River Road / FM 2759 heading southwest. When you reach the intersection with FM 762 Rd (coming from your right), cross the intersection continuing southeast. You are now on Crabb River Road / Bridgewood Dr. / FM 762 Rd. At Ricefield Rd, FM 762 Rd both curves off to the left and comes to a T-intersection with Ricefield Rd. Stay left to continue on FM 762 Rd. Be careful to watch for a required left turn to stay on FM 762 Rd at the intersection with FM 1994 Rd. If you go straight, you are off course. At the intersection, take a left to stay on FM 762 Rd, you are now heading southeast. As you approach the intersection with FM 1462 / Cow Micham Rd, this is an excellent point to fill up (if needed) at Kraft's Country Store. At this point, you can turn around and head back, or continue a little further. To continue, take FM 1462 to the left (East). Soon after, take Cow Creak Rd / Country Rd 25 to the right (South). Stay on this road until you reach Jimmy Phillips Blvd. You are now in East Columbia.

Scenery

This route is mostly through farm and ranch land. It passes by historic "George Ranch" and Brazos Bend Park. The road has light to medium traffic. In good weather, expect to pass other motorcycles. The scenery isn't "beautiful" as much as a peaceful escape from the nearby cities. The road has enough twists and turns to keep it interesting, but plenty of straight sections for passing.

Drive Enjoyment

During the first 3/4 of the ride, I didn't really notice the road quality. Then, I realized my passenger had become too relaxed with her posture and we had to stop so I could remind her to hang on. That is when I realized that the road had been very smooth and obstacle/bump free. Sad to say, but these farm roads are in better condition than most of the Houston city roads. The road condition made for a comfortable, relaxing ride.

Tourism Opportunities

As the whole route is only 35 miles long and there is gas / convenience stores near the beginning and at the mid-point, I rate the amenities above poor. However, most of the route has no amenities, so I rated the amenities below average.

Motorcycle Road Additional info

This route is probably not your choice if you have time to go to the Hill Country. But, for a short ride that is close to Houston, it is a good choice.

i have taken this route several times, it is a short fun route to take. But I use it to head all the way down to surfside beach and stop at sharkeys. This location lands you at the starting place of the blue highway. A ride from surfside to galveston, which follows the ocean.

It just adds an element to the ride

I rode this route from East Columbia to Richmond. Found the road quality to be poor for the first 5-6 miles with lots of potholes. But improved once off CR25. Light traffic and peaceful scenery through farmland. Not exciting in terms of curves, but more fun than Hwy 36 covering roughly the same route.
