Written Directions

From Cosby Tennessee take TN 32 to Waterville Road, Mt Sterling North Carolina

Scenery

You will be riding thru the Cherokee National Forest and Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Drive Enjoyment

The road is almost prefect with virtually no traffic, except for the last 1.6 miles. The pucker factor is that last 1.6 miles is a down grade of about 10% on dirt, so don't ride in the rain or shortly after a rain. Overall it is mostly twisties with altitude changes.

Tourism Opportunities

None

Motorcycle Road Additional info

To me it is one of the best roads I have ever been on. I also really enjoyed that last 1.6 miles.

Motorcycle Type : Cruiser
Nice ride, not for the faint of heart. This is a technical road especially on a cruiser. These corners come up quick and require some skill. Minimal traffic but if you do get behind someone be prepared for a snoozefest.
Pros: Very few adjoining roads /driveways = less traffic you would encounter.
Cons: Some turns can trick even experienced riders.

I've been on the road before, but recently led a small group of eight bikes on this. A beautiful, twisty road with very light (if any) traffic. It is often referred to as the "Redneck Dragon." At the TN/NC border you cross the Appalachian Trail and pavement ends. Just make sure you're there in relatively dry weather. The packed dirt and light gravel were no problem for my rider, mostly on heavy touring bikes. It's 1.2 miles like this and has a couple switchbacks. You simply ride slowly and it's not a problem. I've ridden in 45 states. This is one of my favorite roads. A very pleasant ride and highly recommended.

Traveling from Gatlinburg heading east or north on Rt. 321 I took a right on Rt.32, Wow was I in for a nice surprise, this is as good as Tail Of The Dragon, as mentioned in previous reviews the last 1.6 miles is dirt, no issues navigating that section of road...even with Big Bikes. I highly recommend this route to all. Windy, Shady and the rhododendron were in bloom made for a spectacular ride.
