Written Directions

Start your route in Yardley, PA and go north on State Route 32 through New Hope, PA. Continue heading north while following the turns of the Delaware River. Shortly after you pass through Upper Black Eddy and Narrowsville, 32 will run into 611. Take 611 north for your last 9 miles till you reach Portland and the conclusion of this approximate 50 mile route.

Scenery

Routes 32 and 611 are tree lined and run along the beautiful Delaware River. The northern part of this route includes some incredible cliffs that add to this superb scenery of this pocket of Pennsylvania.

Drive Enjoyment

The roads are nice and smooth, rolling, with a few twists. The northern part is the hilliest of the route.

Tourism Opportunities

The route passes by many beautiful parks including Tinicum Park, Delaware and and the Ralph Stover State Park (look for the signs!). Along the way you'll pass through the town of New Hope which is a very interesting town that includes many antiques shops, restaurants, and retail stores. If you want to see a famous landmark and another great park that isn't exactly on this route, you can go about 6 miles south of this route's starting point in Yardley and check out the Washington Crossing State Park. This is the actual location where the famous "Crossing of the Delaware" by George Washington took place.

Actually live in Yardley and ride River Rd 1-2 times a month. Besides the views and stopping in New Hope or Apple Jacks for a beverage...I'd rather head north using 413 to 611 and bypass Rt 32. For the most part the condition of the road is a 4 on a scale of 10. There's a huge outbreak of potholes between New Hope & Upper Black Getty which at this time (July 28) should have been fixed by now..If you stop by in New Hope, the cops & meter maids continually hassle bikers, we were sitting at Fran's saw the meter maid give out tickets even after the biker was running to feed the meter. Another time a longer bike was 2-3 inches over the parking line and got a $75 ticket...Stay away from No Hope & Rt 32 south of /upper Black Getty if you value your bike & wallet!

One of my favorite close to home routes. Going there 5 to 10 times every year and always find something interesting along the route. Stretch between New Hope and Easton has very nice views. Look for High Rock vista signs, it's a nice spot for a break.
