Written Directions

As you leave the town of Philomath, Or. (heading west) you take a left onto the Alsea HWY/Hwy 34, it is clearly marked and easy to find. The route ends in Waldport, Or. at Hwy 101, just south of the waldport bridge, cross hwy 101 at the signal and enjoy the nice rest area there.

Scenery

The lovely farms of the Willamette valley slowly give way to the mountain forest of the Cascade Range. You will spend much of your ride along the Alsea River giving you plenty of opportunities to pull over and enjoy the many public areas.

Drive Enjoyment

The road is paved and in great condition as of summer 2013. Everything from nice straights and sweeping turns to the go-cart track a short section with many tight hairpins mostly well banked, yet not to challenging for a novice since it is generally a low traffic road and you can take your time.

Tourism Opportunities

There are no reliable gas stations from start to end so gas up befor you leave Corvallis/Phillomath. Many places to stop and relax by the river, well marked camping, picnicking areas.

Just as described by the OP. Awesome switchbacks in sections and other nice long sweepers by the Alsea River. Road still in great shape.

Love this ride. Lots of turns in some sections, scenic farmland in others. 5-10 riverside parks to pull off and relax. Take a side trip to the top of Mary's Peak about 10 miles west of Philomath. Twisty road 9 miles to the top for great views, but 10 degrees colder at the top, so don't start up if you're cold.

What a great way to head to the beach! Nice road with sweeping corners. Plenty of places to stop along the way.
