Written Directions

North Dakota 16 is a north-south road at the extreme western edge of North Dakota. The southern end begins at Beach, ND, where it intersects Interstate 94. The northern point begins at the intersection with North Dakota 68. The north point is about 40 miles south of Williston, ND, and 25 miles east of Sydney, MT.

Scenery

Fantastic badlands and rolling, treeless hills. You can see for miles across two states, North Dakota and Montana. Very few signs of civilization.

Drive Enjoyment

The road is generally well-maintained. It has mostly high-speed sweepers with good sightlines and hardly a car to be seen, no matter when I ride it. Some free- range areas, so beware of cattle and bison.

Tourism Opportunities

No gas, rest stops, or anything. Mostly National Grasslands property. There are a few small dirt roads to either side along the way, often leading to a small lake or stream.

As the oil traffic increases check locally for information such as traffic and road condition. Semis can break it up fast.

I can comfirm the comments posted above. Great road for very fast sweeping corners. Other than the occasional cow also be prepared for numerous deer at dusk/dawn.
