Written Directions

The route starts at the Uwharrie Sportsman on Hwy. 24/27 W in Mt. Gilead and travel East on Hwy 24/27 into Troy. Just inside of Troy you take a slight left onto NC-109-BYP and go just a about a mile before you turn left onto NC-109/Eldorado Rd. Continue on 109 for about 7 miles and turn right onto Ophir Road. Stay on Ophir Road about 5 miles and it becomes Tower Road, take a right onto Flint Hill Road. Go 4 miles and turn left onto Love Joy Road at Flint Hill. Stay on Love Joy Road about 2 miles and the road name changes to Abner Road. Go another 3 miles and turn right onto Pisgah Covered Bridge Road, take a left at Pisgah to stay on Pisgah Covered Bridge Road. Continue on Pisgah Covered Bridge Road for 7 miles and take a slight left onto NC-220-BR/S Fayeteville Street. Go another 5 miles and the Rockstar Grill & Bar is on your left.

Scenery

This route takes several back roads through the Uwharrie Mountains between Troy and Asheboro. There are a lot of views of the Uwharrie Mountains, lakes and streams, and one place to definitely stop off at is Jump Off Rock on Flint Hill Road near Ophir.

Drive Enjoyment

Most of the roads on this route are decent for traveling, with a fair share of twists and turns and ups and downs.

Tourism Opportunities

There's not much between the stop and finish as far as food, shopping, gas, etc. but we started the trip at the Uwharrie Sportsman where we had lunch. The Uwharrie Sportsman is a convenience store and grill, great place to fuel up for the ride both the bike and your belly! Along the route we stopped at the pull off for Jump Off Rock and took in the beautiful scenic view of the Uwharrie River winding through the mountains. There's also a hiking trail just before the Jump Off Rock pull off for those that enjoy a nice hike. From there it's mostly just a vast span of country roads until you get into Asheboro and, of course, then you have your choice of gas stations, food, shopping, you name it. We definitely recommend stopping at the Rockstar Grill & Bar which the bar tender that was there when we stopped was very biker friendly.

I rode out yesterday to Uwharrie National Forest, from Charlotte on Hwy 24. Nice ride.. really beautiful area, lots of nature and camping/hiking in the park. Also, maybe 100 miles within Uwharrie for off road vehicles..
Didn't make it to Asheboro, but will be going back again. I was tired enough with the ride to Troy, let alone 40 more miles. I will write back when I complete ride.
