Written Directions

Just start in Silver City, NM and take NM 152 east all the way to Caballo, NM.

Scenery

This road is great continuous hairpins with rapid elevation changes, great scenery, camping, lot's of trees. Almost no police officers. This road is hard, you'll only average about 40 miles per hour going hard, lot's of knee skidding.

Drive Enjoyment

A solid 4-star rating because of all the twists, turns, and hairpins.

Tourism Opportunities

Don't take this route for the things to do along the way ... take it for the driving experience. There is not too much to do along the way except for camping. .

This is just one outstanding road. The thrill is the scenery, not the speed. I fell in love with this road traveling down from the Painted Desert and heading out through Siver City. Don't forget about The Catwalk on 180 just on the west side of Siver City. This is a great ride!!! You cannot go wrong.

Great road. Very twisty, very scenic and good road conditions. Definitely worth the trip to get there.

Stayed over night in Silver City and hit the road early in the morning, riding east into the rising sun was a huge mistake. Some of the curves take you from twilight, right into blinding sunlight. Also even in July, there was still some early morning ice on the road. However, our early start did treat us to couple sighting of deer and elk.
