Written Directions

Near Oakland in Bergen/Passaic county, take 287 to Skyline Drive/Exit #57. Take Skyline Drive north for about 5 miles and it will end by running into the Greenwood Lake Turnpike (Rt 511) ... here you want to make a right and take this road all the way to West Milford. Near West Milford the road name changes to Marshall Hill Rd. Continue on this road into West Milford and then you want to take Macopin Rd (Rt 693) south out of town and follow the signs to Germantown Road and your route is done when you hit Rt. 23. From Rt 23 you can go north to get to Sussex County or south to Wayne, NJ.

Scenery

Winding roads up and downhill. great scenery with woods and trees on both sides. Get to the reservoir and you have nice straight-aways and go thru small towns. Pass by Ringwood Manor State Park which features the Ringwood Manner House, Skylands Manor House and Botanical Garden, and hiking, picknicking, fishing, boating, hunting, etc.

Drive Enjoyment

Some construction near Ringwood and West Milford, otherwise very good.

Tourism Opportunities

This route is near Skylands Manor botanical gardens. Also when you go thru Ringwood and West Milford out to Rt. 23 there are tons of fast food and restaurants to grab a bite at.

This is a very nice ride. I rode similar to the added comment. Instead of heading to Route 23. I headed through Greenwood Lake and then on to Sterling Forest. I headed south on 17A and turned onto 7 Lakes Drive. I followed it to Bear Mt. and took 9W back home. It was 2-1/2 hours round ttrip and really nice the whole way. Great suggestions.

Lots of steep uphills and downhills with twisties thrown in for even more fun! That's great if you like those kind of things (not as great if your wife's sitting behind you freaking out!)... Beautiful scenery, gorgeous lake and mountain views.
