Written Directions

The goal of this route is to continue the one titled "Sheridan Rd / Chicago Botanic Garden" further North. Start on Sheridan road at the three way intersection with Deere Park Road. Follow Sheridan west from the intersection, then turn right to continue on Sheridan heading North. Stay on Sheridan. Just before you get to Highland Park Sheridan will join St Johns rd. When in Highland Park, turn right at Central Ave (Not Central Ct) then left on Sheridan almost immediately. You should pass by Norton's Restaurant on your right. Follow Sheridan road. It will become Oak, then Walker, then Sheridan again. You probably wont even notice. I didn't until I started making the map on google. Keep following Sheridan. It will become a divided four lane for a short while and then you will take a right at a traffic light to continue on - you guessed it - Sheridan Rd. This will take you through the Lake Forest College campus. Lots of twisty wooded roads. Once you clear the campus sheridan will take a banked left. Follow it or continue onto Witchwood Ln. Both will join later. From here theres a lot of rather straight roads. I've ridden up to the Waukegon Generating Station. Its a pretty cool sight if you're into that sorta thing.

Scenery

There are many impressive houses on this route, as well as beautiful wooded lanes and snaking roads and changes of elevation (for Illinois.) There are also a number of parks and places to get to the lake along the way if you need to stop and stretch your legs.

Drive Enjoyment

The roads are rather smooth, there are some good sweeping corners and twisty sections - especially by Lake Forest College. There are some boring straights as well, I must admit, but I think this is the best way to string together the few curvy roads we get here in the Chicago area.

Tourism Opportunities

Most of the route is through residential streets, so there are not often businesses or restaurants to stop at, though there are plenty of parks some of which have beach access. I have stopped at Norton's Restaurant in Highland Park and they make a pretty good burger. If you turn off Sheridan and head west you'll hit Green Bay Rd. Its less exciting, but has more amenities.

Motorcycle Road Additional info

Please remember, this is meant as a companion to the route from Evanston to the Chicago Botanic Gardens.
