Written Directions

Start you route in the town of Merritt Island and cross the Merritt Island Causeway (route 520) heading west and you'll intersect US 1 and take this north (turn right) and on up to Titusville. When you get up to Titusville, take a right at the causeway on Garden Street (which turns into the Max Brewer Memorial Pkwy) towards Playa Linda and the Kennedy Space Center. Soon you'll run into SR 3 and want to take that north (take a left). Take SR 3 north to Oak Hill, FL, where SR 3 and US 1 meet ... continue north and on up to New Smyrna Beach, FL and take the Smyrna overpass east to the barrier island and head south on A1A. BJ's is on the right about 7-9 miles down off of A1A.

Scenery

Gorgeous ride through the Cape Canaveral National Seashore. Lots of open road and many migratory Birds. Plenty of places to stop and see nature such as Haulover Canal. Not far from Playa Linda beach. Connecting to State Rd 1 through Oak Hill to New Smyrna Beach. Plenty of Ocean view.

Drive Enjoyment

Road quality is excellent with light traffic in the National Seashore. Rt 1 north from the sea shore is more congested but still a "country road" - a favorite among motorcyclists. Several small towns along the way with well maintained roads.

Tourism Opportunities

Plenty of nature, bird watching. Checkout the Blackwater refuge and National Seashore. Oakhill and the route along the way offers many pubs, restaurants and intercostals waterway stops to explore. Cross over the New Smyrna overpass and follow A1A south to JB's. Excellent fare, beer and fun. Visit with the manatees.

I went on it today. Just note that the route at A1A ends into a park, and u have to turn around and come back again. A dead end route. So, the 60 some miles are only one way and u have to turn around and come back. Once your are on Garden street East, there are no gas stations, so u have to have enough gas for about 30 miles before turning in the road. I wasn't impressed with the road. Many boat ramps and wildlife preservation areas, but all parks with fees, not sure about the ramps though. U don't see anything along the way other than short trees on both sides. Boring!
